The OCA has a PayPal account that you can use to make online payments to the OCA. OCA Mission
The OCA is an organization dedicated to the advancement and dissemination of information relating to all aspects of the biology of cichlids and related aquatic life. Our purpose is to promote the interest, keeping, study, breeding, and the educational exhibition of Cichlids. Additionally, the exchange of ideas, meeting new people, and distribution of information concerning Cichlids is of primary interest.
About this Website
The OCA website was built using Wordpress as content management system. Wordpress is a widely used, free, open source software with excellent support. Once installed, it makes creating and maintaining websites very easy with virtually now programming knowledge.
The OCA website is designed to look best with Mozilla Firefox, which is a free, open source browser. Of course maximizing your enjoyment of the OCA web site should be reason enough for downloading Firefox right away, but there are many other reasons in addition to that for using Firefox instead of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Get Firefox now!
This web site was created in December 2008, design courtesy of fmueller.com. If you have questions regarding the site, please feel free to email OCA Webmaster Frank Mueller.
Downloading PDFs takes too long
PDF is a really useful file format created by Adobe, and we use it for a number of documents on the OCA web site. Adobe’s default PDF reader is free and has become kind of a standard for viewing PDF files. Unfortunately the Adobe PDF reader is a huge program that takes forever and a day to load. In other words, it’s not the downloading of PDF files that takes so long, it’s the opening of the default reader software. If that bothers you, there is an alternative free reader that you can download from Foxit. It is a very lean program and loads in virtually no time. Make sure to also get the associated plugin for your browser, which will obviously be Firefox, assuming you read my strong recommendation for this fantastic free browser above! How to install Foxit and the plugin is described for example here.
Leaving comments on the OCA Website
You can leave comments on any of the pages of the OCA web site once you have signed up as a user. This is not linked to being an OCA member or a user of the OCA Forum. Even if you are an OCA member and/or a user of the OCA Forum, you will have to sign up as a user of the web site again if you want to post comments. You can also sign up as a user of the web site and post comments if you are not an OCA member and/or a user of the OCA Forum. More detailed instructions how to post links on the links page are here.
Advertising for the OCA
If you would like to advertise for the OCA, please feel free to ad the OCA logo below to your own personal or business website, with a hotlink to the OCA web site at: http://www.ohiocichlid.com/
Changing the size of the logo to fit your space is ok, altering the logo in any other way is not ok. If you right mouse click on the logo and choose ‘Save Image As’ or ‘Save Picture As’, it will download as a gif file. You can open that file in Photoshop or a similar software, and it should have no background, which makes it easy to integrate in your website design. If you copy and paste the image, the background might default to black, which doesn’t look so great in most cases. If you have questions, please feel free to email OCA Webmaster Frank Mueller.

The Previous OCA Website

The previous website for the OCA was built and maintained by Kris Sooy of cds-design. It served the OCA well for many years, but had become a little dated at the time it was replaced in December 2008.
